Pesach Seder Songs

Every year, around the time of the Seder, I begin collecting nutty Seder songs. My nieces delight in the crazy ones I pick up.

I finally decided to write my own. Seeing how my family is from Alabama (though we live elsewhere now), this song is sung to the tune of “Dixie.”

I Wish I Was in Zion

by Alan Barasch, sung to the tune of “Dixie”

I wish I was in Zion-land,
Old times there are not forgotten,
Look away, look away, look away Israelites.

In Je-ru-sa-lem, where I was born,
Early on one frosty morn,
Look away, look away, look away Israelites.

O, I wish I was in Zion!
Hooray! Hooray!
In Zion Land I'll take my stand
To live and die in Zion
Away, away,
Away down south in Israel!

Next Year in Jerusalem

by Alan Barasch, sung to the tune of “Do You Know the Way to San Jose”

Do you know the way to Je-ru-salem?
I've been away so long
I may go wrong and lose my way.
Do you know the way to Jerusalem?
I'm going back to find some peace of mind in Jerusalem.

Jacob, Moses & Joseph

by Alan Barasch, sung to the tune of “Abraham, Martin, and John”

Has anybody here seen my old friend Jacob?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He had a lot of sons but lost his Joseph
He just looked around and he was gone.

Didn’t you love the things they stood for?
Didn’t they try to find some good in you and me?
And we’ll be free
Someday soon
It's gonna be one day

Has anybody here seen my old friend Moses?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walking up o'er the hill
With Jacob, Moses and Joseph
